Apple pie recipe – How to make apple pie

www.howdini.com Does anything smell better than an apple pie baking in the oven? Lauren Chattman from Pillsbury shows how to make the perfect apple pie. It’s so good you don’t even need the ice cream (but we’ll understand if you have some anyway). Recipe: How to make apple pie 1. Heat oven to 425 degrees. Roll one refrigerated pie crust into a 9 inch glass pie plate. 2. Mix 6 cups of thinly sliced apples, preferably a firm variety like Granny Smith, 3/4 cup of sugar, 2 tablespoons of flour, a tablespoon of lemon juice, 3/4 teaspoon of cinnamon, 1/8 teaspoon of nutmeg, and 1/4 of a teaspoon of salt. Pour entire mixture into the pie shell. 3. Take the second pie crust and roll it right on top of the apples. There should be a little bit of the pie crust hanging over the pie plate. Tuck the edges under for a thick crust. 4. To finish the crust with a scalloped edge, place your index finger and thumb on a section of the outside edge of the pie crust. With your index finger on the other hand press into that section from the inside of the pie crust to make a scalloped edge all the way around. 5. Cut four to six slits in the top of the pie for ventilation. This lets the moisture escape and ensures your apple pie has a crisper top crust. 6. Place a pie shield, or aluminum foil strips, over the pie crust edges to prevent burning. 7. Bake the apple pie for 40 to 45 minutes. About 15 minutes before the pie is finished, take the pie shield off to let the edge brown up. 8. After baking

|Making A Perfect Apple Pie

Article by Tom A Lingle

Making a perfect apple pie is actually a simple task using ingredients that are inexpensive and readily available. Anyone who can peel apples and put them in a pie crust with sugar and seasoning can turn out a delightful dessert. One of the tips you will hear from experienced bakers is to make your own homemade crust. Of course, it is easier to just buy a readymade rolled up pie crust, or a frozen one right in its own pie pan ready to bake, but many people feel nothing equals the taste of your own freshly made crust.

Whether or not you make your own pie crust, you will need a pie plate or pan–unless you buy the frozen kind right in the pan. Pie plates come in clear glass, ceramic, aluminum and disposable pans. According to professional bakers, a glass pie plate gives a better well-browned crust, and it is easy to see when the crust is done.

After you have made a decision on the kind of crust and pie plate you will use, the next thing to consider is what kind of apples will go into your pie. Once again, everyone has his or her own taste preference. Almost any kind of apple will work, except that some of them turn softer and “cook down” more, such as McIntosh, which has a delightful taste, though. If you use a softer apple it may produce more juice, so use a bit more flour inside the pie to compensate. Granny Smith apples hold their shape better–they are the green ones–and Jonathan and Red Rome apples are also good choices.

Wash and dry the apples before peeling and slicing. Tools such as an apple peeler and corer are nice to have, but not necessary. A paring knife is best for slicing. It will give you more control than a serrated blade, and help to prevent cut fingers. If you slice the apples thin, the crust will stay more “domed” and not lay on the apples as they bake. Thickly sliced apples may squash down more and create a more dense pie.

Look for a good recipe in cookbooks, on the internet, or ask your favorite pie baker among friends or relatives for their recipes. You will find they are all similar, and you can choose the one with the ingredients that look the best to you. Follow those tips, do not skimp on ingredients, and you will surely hear “best pie I ever ate” when you serve your masterpiece after making a perfect apple pie.

Question: I’m generating an apple pie and I do not have any nutmeg, can I substitute ground allspice as a substitute?
Most recipes I identified contact for nutmeg, but I just do not feel like going all the way to town to get some. Also, I have a frozen crust and I was asking yourself what to do about making the best crust. It may possibly come with it, but I’m not positive. If anybody has any added simple apple pie recipes, feel cost-free to share them, thank you!
Oh I virtually forgot, I only have 3 large Granny Smith apples, is that sufficient for a pie?

The answer in the following: (Hint: The answer is not always.)

Solution by Melanie
Personally I use cinnamon for my apple pies. I do not bear in mind the exact recipe but peel the apples, slice em thin, then mix with a bit of flour and sugar. Its really really straightforward.

3 apples may well be a small short, but you can constantly make a thinner pie. Otherwise do you have any strawberries, blue/rasp/black berries, cranberries, raisins or (lengthy-shot) rhubarb? That would add some volume.

For a leading crust, if you do not have adequate pie crust, make a crumb topping with oatmeal, flour, white or brown sugar, butter, and optionally chopped nuts.

Answer by Jessica L
I’ve only utilised brown sugar and cinnamon in my pies, but I would not recommend employing allspice. That would change the flavor entirely.
three apples is sufficient for a pie, definately

Easy APPLE PIE

Apples
one/two c. brown sugar
one/four tsp. mace
one/four tsp. apple pie spice
Pillsbury Pastry or your very own pastry

Reduce up at least eight apples and mix with brown sugar, mace and apple pie spice. Roll out the Pillsbury Pastry a tiny thinner and put in pie pan. Sprinkle with white sugar. Add apple mixture. Best with upper pastry and sprinkle generously with white sugar. Bake ten minutes at 425 degrees, then 35 minutes at 400 degrees.

Answer by Bein’ cheeky, are ye?!
You ought to be ready to just mix sliced apples (peeled) with brown sugar (let it sit & stir it sometimes prior to putting into pie shell), then put into pie crust (I use shop bought for comfort), I suggest placing a handful of small pats of butter all over the top of it, adds richness to the flavor, but you definitely don’t have to! Cover with the leading crust, cut out a tiny hole in center & bake at 375 for about 40-50 mins or right up until crust is baked & filling is bubbling.

I make easy fruit pies this way all the time & serve with homemade whipped cream – hefty whipping cream, a wee bit of sugar (to taste, I don’t like it sweet) & a couple drops of vanilla, beat with electric beaters until finally it starts to ‘peak’ or is the consistency you choose. Alternatively, a slice can be served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or cheddar cheese!

Now, if you are prepared to add a number of much more components, this is a very good recipe:
