Q&A: Simple Macaroni & Cheese Recipe?
I love white cheddar macaroni & cheese, and I was wondering if anyone had ideas to add stuff to it and make it zesty? I was thinking about adding basil, some diced tomatoes, and a tomato sauce, but I’m not sure what else would go with it, or if that would even be any good. I’m not the best cook, so please, only suggest recipes that are simple and almost fail-proof, lol.

Thanks in advance for your help!

diced tomatoes, basil, oregano, garlic, bits of ham or turkey or chicken, bread crumbs on the top before baking makes it crunchy, apples are good too.

well if you dont mind extra calories. instead of adding milk. just ad a crap load of butter. it changes the taste completely and is 20 times better.

add some spices…. maybe sprinkle some minced cilantro, basil, if you like spicy, try minced garlic and jalapenos that have a few seeds attached. on the mild side, add a pinch of pepper and some dry minced veggies like broccoli

Make your usual white cheddar mac & cheese and add diced ham, sauteed onion, cooked chopped cauliflower and Dijon mustard. You can also add diced tomatoes too. This is so delicious! Be skimpy with the mustard until you get a feel for how much you like.

The word Zesty in mac and cheese hmmm. Maybe you could add a little pepper jack cheese that would give it a kick. Or add a little Cajun seasoning and dont forged some cracked pepper. Try some online cooking sites like foodnetwork.com or recipezar.com for some great recipes. Happy Cooking

Question: Simple recipe for macaroni and cheese?
Can anyone give me a simple but tasty recipe for macaroni and cheese (or penne and cheese) that involves only the ingredients I have in my kitchen? I have penne pasta, American cheese, some garlic, milk, butter, several herbs & spices (thyme, rosemary, bay leaves, sage, crushed red pepper, chili powder, cumin, coriander, nutmeg, cloves, fennel, etc.)? I want to make a tasty recipe but I don’t want to go overboard, which I am fully capable of doing. Thanks!

Answer by misfitgirl0265
noodles..add milk.buter…place cheese in..a lil salt and pepper..

Answer by Kate
Cook the penne until al dente. Set aside
In a pot, melt 2 tbsn butter and whisk in 2 tbsn flour. Whisk until smooth. Slowly whisk in 3/4 cup of milk, and allow to simmer until thickened: about 10-15 minutes. Remove from heat and whisk in 1 cup of shredded cheese until melted. Add 1/4 tsp nutmeg, salt and pepper to taste. Stir in the penne. You can either eat it like that, or pour it into a casserole dish, top with breadcrumbs mixed with additional cheese, and bake until bubbly.

Do you have a little flour or cornstarch to use as a thickener? If yes, then melt 2 Tbs. butter over medium heat and then add 2 Tbs. flour and blend well. Add 2 cups milk and 1/4 tsp. nutmeg, salt and pepper and parsley and whisk until it all comes together, then bring to a boil and cook for 2 minutes (to get rid of the raw flour taste). Turn off heat. Add 2 cups shredded or cubed or cut up American cheese and stir until melted. Add 1 pound cooked and drained pasta of your choice (the penne is really good in this). You can either eat it now or top with some bread crumbs and heat through in a 350 F oven until the top is golden.

boil the pasta and also add one small onion to the pot. Drain when done and put back into pot. add american cheese, breaking it into little peices as you add it, until it is creamy and every peice of pasta is coated with cheese. then you eat it. good luck ^_^
